Interview Practice
How our AI mock interviews work
What It Does
HireHelix AI simulates real behavioral interviews with adaptive AI that probes deeper based on your answers - just like a real interviewer would. You get scored on four dimensions and can track your improvement over time.
Who This Is For
First-Time Interviewees
Never done a behavioral interview? Practice in a low-stakes environment first.
Career Pivoters
Changing industries or roles? Practice framing your experience for new contexts.
Experienced Professionals
Know your stuff but get nervous? Build confidence with realistic practice.
How a Session Works
Choose Your Setup
Select your target company (Amazon, Google, etc.) and role type. Premium users can also choose a specific competency to focus on.
Answer Questions
You'll receive 2-4 behavioral questions. Type or use voice input. The AI evaluates each answer and decides whether to ask follow-ups.
Handle Follow-ups
If your answer has gaps (missing metrics, unclear ownership), the AI will probe deeper - up to 3 follow-ups per topic.
Get Scored
When you finish, you'll see scores across four dimensions plus specific feedback on strengths and areas to improve.
See It In Action
Example: How adaptive follow-ups work
Initial Question
Tell me about a time you had to make a decision with incomplete information.
Your Answer
I led a project where we had to choose between two vendors without full pricing data. I gathered what info we had, consulted with stakeholders, and made the call to go with Vendor A...
Follow-up 1
What specific metrics or criteria did you use to compare the vendors?
Follow-up 2
You mentioned consulting stakeholders. What was YOUR role vs. the team's input in the final decision?
Follow-up 3
What was the outcome? How did you measure whether it was the right call?
Why this matters: Real interviewers probe for specifics. Our AI does too - so you practice handling the pressure before it counts.

- Use voice input to practice speaking - it's closer to real interview conditions.
- Don't rush through follow-ups. They're designed to help you practice going deeper.
- Review your scores after each session. Focus on the dimension where you score lowest.
- Aim for 2-3 sessions per week. Steady practice beats cramming.

20-45 seconds
Total per question:
Under 2:30 is ideal
Warning zone:
3:00+ means you're likely rambling
Our on-screen timer will nudge you at 2:00 and warn at 3:00 to help build this habit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a practice session?
Most sessions take 15-25 minutes, depending on how many follow-up questions you receive. You can end a session early if needed, and your progress will still be saved.
What are adaptive follow-up questions?
Our AI analyzes your answer in real-time and asks follow-up questions based on gaps it detects - missing metrics, unclear ownership, or vague details. This mimics how real interviewers probe deeper. You'll get up to 3 follow-ups per topic.
How is my answer scored?
We score on four dimensions: Clarity (how well you communicated), Completeness (did you cover all STAR elements), Depth (level of detail and specifics), and Leadership (evidence of ownership and impact). Each dimension is rated 1-5 with specific feedback.
Can I practice for a specific company?
Yes! Select your target company before starting, and you'll get questions mapped to that company's actual values - like Amazon's Leadership Principles or Google's Googliness criteria.
Should I type or use voice input?
Voice input is more realistic since actual interviews are spoken. However, typing is fine if you're in a noisy environment or want to practice structuring your thoughts first. Many users start with typing, then switch to voice as they gain confidence.
Ready to Practice?
Your first session takes about 15 minutes. Pick a company and jump in.
